Tips on Tidying Up Your Garden during the Autumn Season

When the wind starts to get chilly and the leaves outside turn into a different shade, then you know that autumn is coming. This season also marks the start of a major cleanup project for your garden. Written below are some tips to help you tidy up your yard in no time.

In order to avoid the hassle of raking accumulated dead leaves and dry flowers, begin removing or picking them up a little at a time. Doing so will help keep your garden neat and ensure that it has a presentable appearance before the frost sets in.

Clear away old plants and plant matter in order to prevent organisms such as fungi, bacteria, viruses, and insect eggs from growing during the winter months. They can spoil the soil and make it hard for you to grow your favourite blooms next spring.

If some of your ornamental plants become infected over the summer months, remember to remove the old mulch as well. The latter may be infected with disease spores and insect eggs. If you have plants that did not grow quite well, now would also be a good time to do something about them. You can either thin them out to be replanted or discard them entirely.

Whether your yard is dedicated to growing vegetables or blossoms, it is a good idea to pull up the entire plant. You will then be left with an abundant supply of seeds for the next planting season.

After you have totally cleaned out your garden, feed the soil by adding fertiliser, mulch, compost, manure, and some organic topsoil before tilling it under. You can then cover it with pine straw or some pine bark.
